My alarm went off at 5.30 am and I didn’t even snooze like I normally do. Today was my first one-on-one training session with Tammy Rawstron at Crossfit District Six and I didn’t want to be late. I could lie in and think of a million excuses not to exercise, or I could honour the commitment I’ve made to myself and get my ass into gear.
My nerves were shattered to be honest. I really didn’t know what to expect. Part of me felt like I would stick out like a sore thumb walking into a place full of gym buffs, but I was determined to put my game face on. It was a chilled environment though. Tammy was there waiting for me and we got cracking in no time. Tricep dips, rowing, planking, pushups…good grief. Firstly, I didn’t have breakfast (not the smartest idea), so after 45 minutes I was feeling dizzy and nauseas. Coupled with the fact that I am grossly unfit. But hey, I survived!
Apparently ‘the first is the worst’. It will get better. So I’m looking forward to getting stronger. I knew that this was going to be a challenge, but I don’t think I anticipated the level of shock your body goes into after experiencing proper exercise for the first time in years. It’s hectic. Much respect to those who are able to stick to a regular fitness programme without falling off the wagon. I am not someone who can confidently say ‘I love working out’. No. I am lazy. Maybe one day I will wake up and be filled with excitement at the thought of a morning workout. For now, I’m pushing through. Tomorrow we are taking measurements so we can track before and after results.
I don’t want to be super skinny. I just want to be fit, toned and healthy. Able to fit into my jeans without cutting off my blood supply.
Having a personal trainer is amazing. There is someone pushing you all the time. No time for rest breaks or losing focus after ten minutes. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Tammy! Watch me go guys. No slacking!
